The car arrived on Sunday and it eventually stopped raining yesterday. Couldn't resist the temptation to take the afternoon off for a bit of a blat. They don't see many se7ens in these parts judging by the pointing, staring and questions at the petrol pumps. This is going to be one hell of a summer. |

My sister lives up in Rimini, and should be doing a tour down through the alps to see her as summer approaches.... Have been really intrigued as to what the Italians response will be to the 7, and really looking forward to testing out the responsive handling on the mean streets of Italy where action and reaction border on the creative in getting from A to B, its not if something happens its when something happens.... one of the most enjoyable places to drive in the world.... and all with 95mph speed limits.... Better than an Xbox or PS2!!!
I can't help but think that I will get stopped by the police a few times though, they generally don't give a rats about speeding but an interesting car with a Brit on board is good healthy entertainment... me thinks!!!
David

Congratulations on getting your car down there, by the way!!!!
Its Built its running and I am on the road having sooooo much fun!!!... pictures here , I am as excited as an excited thing..... |

My wife (then girlfriend) and I took the Seven to North Eastern Italy about 12 years ago - the reaction was terrific - starting at the Border.
We drove from Switzerland through no-mans land, and up to the red and white striped pole, and 3 Italian broder guards dressed in imaculate uniforms, sub machine guns slung over the shoulder, designer shades. They spread out around the car and stared. when offered the Passports the Number 1 guard just shhok his head and signalled for the barrier to be raised - we started to move off - "Non NON NON" says Number 1. We stop - and the sub machine gun looks very ominous - the end of the barrel right at eye level in a Seven. He winds his fist round and then points down the road - message received. 4,000 rpm, dump clutch, squeal tyres and go for it - look in the mirror and there are 3 guards jumping around waiving their arms and laughing behind us...what an introduction to Italy...

Hello Conorkaby,
I'm sure you'll really enjoy your 7 in Italy. I've had chats with quite a few Italian racers and car enthusiasts and few people have spotted or own se7ens in Italy. I did once have a chat with a Caterham owner who was complaining about the difficulties encountered with regulations on emissions in Italy and the prohibitive cost of parts. It was also impossible to get yourself upgradeitis because anything changed from the car's original spec would create problems with paperwork. I am not sure how true this is... Any Lotus will be easily recognized by the Italians as there are many of them racing Elans in historic classes and hillclimbs but 7's are very rare - possibly also as the Italians like their cars with beautiful bodies I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun at the lights especially in areas where street racing is possible.
You may also find the absence of a roof very helpful when you would like to reciprocate certain signs issued by a certain class of drivers on the road (well at least I do!!!)
Enjoy it !

I took mine to Sicily and back - the Amalfi coast roads were fantastic. The roads over the Appenines were also wonderful. What a place to own a Seven!! Reminds me that I must take mine to Scotland one day too. |
