Hello
All the Taffia Favourites are rumbled up into one mega blattastic two-day tour.
We will be covering 450 miles of the most challenging, exciting and quietest roads in the country over the course of 2 days, we will be driving the test roads you see in the car magazines including the EVO triangle plus the Topgear and Autocar Black Mountain road and the stunning Staylittle and Bala pass. We will also be visiting the Mountains of Snowdonia and making a Pilgrimage to Porthmeirion]here.
There is no entry fee and no booking forms, you simply turn up on the day. We are planning for 100 cars.
Basic Programme (subject to change over the coming months - but fairly firm): Saturday 15th August Arrive and sign on at 0830 The route will start from Strongys Hotel at 10.00 - The Glen Yr Avon Hotel in Usk - further details are here and location map is here, coffee and bacon rolls will be served on the lawn (for a small donation).
At 10am we depart and will then make our way North to the EVO Triangle, the first leg will take about 3.5 hours and lead us to Bala. Our lunch stop is taken at the Llyn Brenig Visitor Center on the EVO triangle here Refreshments are available from the shop or how about a picnic ?.
Then its off for a lap of the Triangle , which frankly after the 3.5 hour blat is not one of the best roads of the day .. but has to be done
Then we continue across the Snowdonia Mountains ontoPorthmadog where we stay over night. Portmadog is 1 hour from the EVO triangle so we should arrive there at about 5pm.
Sunday 16th After a relaxed breakfast we will regroup at 9am at Prisoner Village at Porthmeirion where we will spend a few hours enjoying this unique place. The Village is just 10minutes from Porthmadog. The Club event support vehicle will also be present.
We then depart at 10.30 am and blat South continuing along some of the best roads of the whole trip across the Dyliffe and Staylittle hilltop road to out lunch stop at The Elan Valley visitor Center here at about 1pm and onwards towards The Chapels and The Epynt ranges and then the Tog Gear AMG Black series road here and finally back to our finish Pub The Piercefield at Chepstow for about 5pm where we can have a bite to eat and a nice cold beer
Hotel bookings and where to stay at Porthmadog and Portmeirion On Saturday 15th In order to keep things simple and for you all to set your own budget we thought it best that you book your own accommodation. We will all then regroup in the Portmeirion visitors car park after breakfast on day 2 I hope you appreciate the fact that I really don't want to organising hotels and and handling cash etc and we all have different budgets and taste .
We have chosen to stay at Porthmadogas the hotels of a reasonable price range and quality plus more expensive hotels in the actual Prisoner village and finally an option of a campsite.
I propose that nearer the date we organise to gather for dinner or drinkies or maybe fish and chips on the prom Some of the hotels may require a minimum 2 night stay. If thats the case then please do a google search and find some other accommodation. Porthmadog is the largest tourist town in the area so you have the best chance of finding a place to stay. Me ?, well Im camping.
The hotels :
The portmeirion-village here
hotels and B&B's are listed below here
Campsite : Just outside Porthmadog here or lots of others if you google search.
We will be seeking to allow cars into the Prisoner village on the Sunday morning but we are awaiting confirmation of numbers permitted. If numbers are limited then we will draw names out of the hat.
Hotels and places to stay in the Usk area for Friday and Sunday night
Alternative hotels also recommended :
In Usk - The Glen Yr Avon Hotel here 3 Salmons Hotel 01291 672133 (I can't get their website to work)
Nr Usk - Cwrt Bleddyn - here
Nr Usk - The Llansantfreid Hotel - here
Nr Abergavenny - Gliffaes - here
Also the Greyhound Inn, Llantrissant. 2 miles out of Usk, they do great bar food and have good accommodation in a converted stable block.- here I've eaten there plenty of times, staff are always friendly with some great characters, good selection of beers and wines. If you have been on a Taffia blat before than you will have a fair idea of the style of event and relaxed approach and quality of route books. If you have any other questions please dont hesitate to post below.
I would like to have 100 cars coming on this trip
The Taffia look forward to you joining us
Dave

Sounds good
Doubt I will be allowed to participate, as it is a big festival in SWMBO's home village but I will ask anyway!
I'll also need to be on French plates before though, or I will end up paying road tax for a weekend.

I would really like to do this but I need to do a calculation on how much this is going to cost me (one word - X\Flow). If I can afford this then I will be along.
