ok I'll bite:
what exactly are you doing? a scan suggests an image, which isn't editable and so can't lose its format - unless you mean scan and o.c.r. into text, in which case keeping the formatting would be a pleasant surprise, in my experience some time back.

You cannot do this without intelligent zonal scanning as offered by Kofax Ascent and the like which is designed for batch scanning of specifcally formatted documents. With Kofax you still have to write a release script to push teh data to Excel.
What you could TRY, is scanning it using Adobe Capture. Then the OCR text might have a white space between the records which you could use a s acolum delimiter. I would not hold out much hope though. |

I think I can do this (we've just had some new software installed called Paperport from Xreox).
Email the doc to me at harringtonandy at yahoo dot co dot uk and I'll try it.
When do you need it as I'm not back in my office until late today or tomorrow?

Hi all, Thanks for the replies.
I want to scan in a paper document ( 30 plus pages ), with rows and columns into excel for further processing/editing. I've tried OCR software but the format was lost. I'm using a Dell 924 printer/scanner. I have done this in the past fairly sucessfully, using an old "Time" machine and scanner, with ???? software. I've got my missus to re-type this one, but I get a lot of these, and not all the clients will send the file in electronic format.
Andy, thanks very much for the offer, but since I do get quiet a few documents, I need the facility / knowledge of how to do this myself.
I'll get my teenage son to sort it out......if I can get him out of bed!!
