dont worry about cones - mark the course out with rope on the tarmac or even ducktape or best of all - chalk powder. then there is no wing clipping incidents and folk running around picking errant cones up.

This. Or possibly those very small plastic cones that are almost flat, like these perhaps. I clipped a big cone at North Weald and ripped a rear wing off <sulks>

We need to make sure that this doesnt happen.

The prime objective is safety. Categorically i dont want people leaving this event with damaged cars.

I tend to agree with Dave J that we would be insufficient in numbers to offer any profit to a stand owner. Whilst it's a nice idea, I think it's reasonable to expect a stand to turn a profit, and doubt that they would with the numbers involved.

Jill Judd was at the Know Your 7 event and when I was there the only person I saw buying off her was me!

wrt price, I'm thinking of around £50 to £55 max, ideally less. If it's going to be more than this (it shouldnt from the figures I have been given) then I would want to post up here and see if the interest was retained.

I seem to remember in 2008 someone organised a weigh-in at a Reading underground car parkconfused smiley- Would that be a bit of fun that's not too much hassle ( if someone has the kit of course) - drift and weigh your car?wink smiley

- That was me with some guys in the ReHab group. We had two sets of scales (mine and another) We also had a laptop, projector etc showing spreadsheet of everyones weights on the wall. But I'm not suggesting we do that0 We just have a weigh-in.

latest news on this.

After some toing and froing it does look like this could be a goer if we want it.

However, before diving in head first, making financial commitments etc, I can see one major issue: timing.

The only availability that Silverstone have for the car parks is saturday 26th June or Sunday 27th.

We have reserved 27th June. However, and this is the big "but", it's less than a month after Dunsfold.

Although the events we intend to hold are unlikely to be identical to Dunsfold they may well be similar.

As it's going to be you guys that would attend, I want your thoughts as to holding two similar events within a short timeframe.

Maximum numbers would be about 35 per session (morning and afternoon sessions).

I don't think that will be a problem really....I have sent my form off for the former and would definitely still do some proper drifting in the silverstone lot...I have done the caterham days (slolem and drifting) and it would be so much better in my car....

...also, should it be morning and afternoon sessions or simply all day?

I would definitely be up for this - and I am hoping to do Dunsfold aswell.

They may be a month apart - but that probably plays in your favour as I believe Dunsfold is often oversubscribed.

Roy, I'm putting a hand up for "interested" and will watch the thread as I'm local.

It would be nice to get the Oxford guys out, I'm sure those that are free would be interested in this. thumbs up

As it's only 20 miles away I'd be interested if I'm not on holiday.

Roy, whilst at the DHD we have people from as far as Devon in the in the West and probably further in the North, it's majority catchment area probably doesn't extend much beyond a 50 mile radius of Dunsfold Park.

I have no issue with the date and I doubt any of your potential clients will either. Good luck matethumbs up

I second the reference to not using big cones, I clipped (slightly) one with the rear of my car on a coned layout at Bruntingthorpe and it made a right mess (my fault though as I was warned not to hit the big cones)

I watched the Caterham drift experience at Racecar Live, and thought it a bit 'mickey mouse', a good layout is the one Silverstone racing school use, slalom/drift out & back, with high speed stop, seemed to be more driving than standing around too

Cheers

Re the size of the cones. At the DHD the large cones (50cm or 75cm) are used primarily for area demarcation rather than course marking which uses small 9" 'sport' cones. If you get anywhere near a large cone to damage your car a Dunsfold Handling Day, the you are probably making up your own coursesticking out tongue smiley.

Due principally to logistical reasons I am afraid that this event will no longer go ahead.

As far as I am aware the only L7C event of this nature that will be going ahead for 2010 is the Dunsfold event, so get yourself down there in May!
