I've searched the archives to death and googled everwhere I can think of so.........

Any ideas on where I'd pick up a matching set of 6.5 or 7" fronts and 8" rears for a VX dedion car please?
I have been searching for ET24 offsets which from memory is correct but most of the ford fitting 108pcd wheels seem to be ET0.
I had the Barmby type on my SLR but believe dedion ear mods are needed for this car, and besides although they do look superb I think I'd rather save a few bob and go for minilite style one piece alloys.

All pointers appreciatedthumbs up

Kenny, I got your mail. ET22 is the size. Very hard to get.

Take the grinder and some POR15 to our DD tube. You won't regret it.

Cheers Arnie. I haven't weighed the job of metal removal up as of yet. Is there a lot to come off from memory?................and is this method purely to fit the MB mags?

Thanks

Hi Kenny,
I have just bought a set of Compomotive wheels, may that helps:
1992 Dedion, ARB above Diff
Front CXR-1365; 13x6,5, ET23
Rear CXR-1381; 13x8, ET20
Fits very well and they fill the rear wings perfect fine. I had to grind the Dedion ears and to relocate the lower drop link mounting point. See here

Thanks for that Volkerthumbs up, nice job mate.

I spoke with George Polley about the Comp MLs and it seems to be a bit of a struggle to get the correct offset required although I think we can get closer with the CXR's.

It is the minilite style I am after to be honest, and preferably without the need for mods.

I'm assuming the Caterham supplied 6" rims (ml style) go on without any butchering......they did last time I purchased a set off them for another HPC a while back. I may have to settle for similar if a set don't turn up shortly.

Thanks once more.

Image should be able to make you any offset you like. How about these (cast centre 3 piece) or these (2 piece).

Kenny,

Think you just need to bite the bullet and shave your ears if you want to go wider on your car.

I run 13" minilites 6 and 7's on my HPC and had to shave the ears to get the rears on.
IIRC Caterham changed the ear profile when they introducted the 8 inch (or 8.5?) rims on the SLR.

Mine is a 1994 car and there was only marginal contact between the ear and the rim and only a couple of mm had to be ground off them on the lower trailing edge. Really not a big job and nothing to worry about and at least once you have done that you will have no issues with whatever you buy or upgrade to in the future.

Cheers

Dave

Edit it add - if you get wheels with an offset that allows the wheel to clear the ear, won't the wheels protrude too far outside of the wheel arch?

Thanks for the links Martinthumbs up

Dave, I think you are right mate. It's just I didn't really want to alter anything.........but I think the grinder may have to get fired up.

How easy would it be for you to possibly get a pic of the area you ground off to give me an idea......looking at mine now I can hazzard a guess..........the bit that looks like it may foul is a steel plate piece next to the ally ear.

Many thanks.

Sorry to go on ladssticking out tongue smiley, can anyone throw any light on this please. Just jacked the car up to have a look to stop mucking about.

Now where I'd assume the inner wheel would catch on the ear the retaining bolt on the ear is virtually in the corner.i.e. right by the radius, the bit that sticks out most is a shim about 1mm thick.
On the ear itself it looks like I could remove very little meat without going into the threadconfused smiley....is this right or is there normally a fair amount of metal past this bolt?...I need to look at another really.

Now thinking about it, one of the previous owners in the early 2000's did use this car on track.........I'm wondering if it's already been modded now as I doubt he'd have used the 16" rims..car was always looked after by Caterham or agents and had a lot of cash thrown at it so it may be a possibility, what do you think?

Thanks again fellasthumbs up

Kenny, Its not the ear you grind. Its the back edge of the 3/8" plate on the end of the DD tube. 2 mins with a grinder and a bit of POR15. Job done.

Now stop making such a fuss and buy some Barnby wheels.
