So my company has given me an iPhone4 (OK, I am my company and so am entirely to blame).

There's a microsim in the post somewhere from Vodafone (I bought the phone from an Apple store and will just use my existing contract) - but it's the weekend and you can't do a damned thing with the 4 until it's got a sim...

So - should I be able to just walk up the road and pop in to the local Voda shop and see if they've got any microsims in stock - or is the sim-in-the-post in some way already associated with my existing number/account?

Secondly - are there any recommended Windoze (or web) apps for transferring all of my contacts etc. across from my existing sim/Nokia E63? I've never synch'd the phone with Outlook or anything like that - I just back it up to the Nokia software (horrible resource hog that it is) from time to time.

Yes, pop to vodafone and pickup a sim - then call and register it

As for your other query - I know nothing about windoze...

fad -noun; an unconventional social pattern that people embrace briefly but enthusiastically

Thanks - I've found some stuff that suggests that I should be able to do the synch through windows - I'll give it a whirl.

<sigh>
Walked up to the voda store. Walked out with a microsim within around 3 minutes. Sim activated before I'd got back home...

...only to find that in the meantime, Mr. Postie had popped the microsim Voda sent out through the letter box!

Still - at least I don't have to faff with the online sim registration - and I did notice that Waterstones have 3-for-2 on all fiction at the moment - so the 2-mile round-trip on foot wasn't entirely wastedsticking out tongue smiley

Seems OK so far - but I don't have any particular problems around here (center of Edinburgh) anyway. I'll see what it's like on the train to Glasgow on MOnday - the reception along that route is pretty-patchy - but I could maintain some kind of signal pretty-much all of the way through (with the exception of a couple of steep railway cuttings, perhaps).

Battery-life - now that's more of a worry so far!

I wondered why you bought an iphone, but now your devious plan becomes clear <smokin>
